I have shared this graphic on social media and in my newsletter over the last few months. But the more I sit in meetings about how to connect eaters with local food growers and the more I write about why local food matters to me, the more I love what this graphic does: It quickly and understandably lays out the top arguments for why to buy and eat local: It’s better for you, for your community, for the environment at large. So take a moment and ponder some of the numbers in here: 81 percent of farmers market growers use sustainable practices to raise their food; 2/3 of consumers are interested in buying local; 78 percent of us are willing to pay extra for local food. You might learn something you didn’t know before; at the very least you’ll have the stats to explain why eating local is so vital.
